Jacob's Well is the visible opening of an extensive underwater cave system fed by the Trinity Aquifer, making it both a scenic spring and an important groundwater resource.
The surrounding natural area protects the headwaters of Cypress Creek and remains open for hiking even while swimming is unavailable.
Hays County's current visitor guidance says swimming has not been permitted since June 2022 because of low water levels and unsafe water conditions, and an August 25, 2026 update cancelled swimming until further notice. Use current county information rather than older travel photos or blog posts when planning a visit.
