Galveston Island State Park is an RV camping base with both Gulf-side and bay-side experiences rather than a conventional inland campground. TPWD lists electric campsites on the beach side with 20-, 30- and 50-amp service among the available configurations. The park also offers bay-side camping, lodges and day-use facilities, so travelers should confirm the exact site type and location before assuming a beach view or a particular hookup package.
The surrounding landscape is the reason to stay here. Campers can fish from shore, paddle protected bay waters, walk beach and marsh habitats, bird, hike and bike. TPWD maintains paddling trails and canoe or kayak launch access, while the beach side gives direct Gulf access. Salt air, wind, heat, thunderstorms and tropical weather can all affect an RV stay, so the current forecast and park alerts matter more here than at many inland stops.
The park is west of central Galveston on FM 3005, making it possible to pair a campground stay with island attractions without giving up a quieter coastal base. TPWD identifies March through October as the busiest season and recommends reservations because the park can reach capacity. Recheck campsite availability, electrical needs, vehicle limits, beach conditions and any storm-related restrictions before towing onto the island.
