The place
Blanco State Park is one of the more compact RV-friendly state-park bases in the Hill Country. Texas Parks and Wildlife currently lists both full-hookup campsites and sites with water and electricity, so RV travelers can choose a service level rather than assuming every site has the same utilities. The park sits along a one-mile stretch of the Blanco River and is only a short distance south of the town square.
The river is the center of a stay here. TPWD lists swimming, fishing, paddling and boating among the park's activities, and electric motors are the only motors allowed for boats. Anglers can fish from shore in the park without a fishing license, and TPWD stocks rainbow trout in winter. Those seasonal and water-based uses make current river conditions worth checking before an RV trip.
Blanco also works well as a small-footprint Hill Country base rather than a resort-style campground. Civilian Conservation Corps features remain part of the park, and Johnson City and other Hill Country stops are within an easy drive.
