Ben Hogan was born in Dublin, Texas, in 1912 and grew up in Fort Worth, where he and Byron Nelson caddied at Glen Garden Country Club. His early professional years were uneven, but relentless practice and precise ball striking eventually produced 64 tournament victories and nine major championships.
A 1949 automobile collision nearly ended his career and left lasting physical limitations. Hogan returned to win the 1950 U.S. Open and, in 1953, captured the Masters, U.S. Open and Open Championship in the same season, making his comeback central to the record rather than a decorative part of the legend.
