Travis Scott

Jacques Bermon Webster II, known professionally as Travis Scott, was born in Houston in 1991 and grew up largely in Missouri City. His production-heavy rap style blended hip-hop with electronic, psychedelic and melodic approaches, and albums including Rodeo, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, Astroworld and Utopia established him as a major international recording and touring artist. Houston is unusually explicit in Scott's branding. The 2018 album Astroworld memorialized the former Six Flags park that closed in 2005, and city leaders publicly recognized his connection to Houston in 2019. The name later became inseparable from tragedy: during Scott's November 5, 2021 Astroworld Festival headline performance at NRG Park, a crowd compression event killed ten people and injured many others. Houston subsequently adopted stricter outdoor-music-event rules and cited the disaster when supporting improved mass-gathering coordination.
