Gene Roddenberry

Eugene Wesley Roddenberry was born in El Paso, Texas, in 1921. His family moved to Los Angeles while he was young, so the Texas portion of his biography is brief but genuine. During World War II he served as an Army Air Forces B-17 pilot, then flew commercially before joining the Los Angeles Police Department while writing television scripts on the side.

Roddenberry developed Star Trek after years of western and dramatic television writing. The original series premiered in 1966 and used science fiction to address war, prejudice, political power and social change in ways conventional television often avoided. Later Star Trek series and films expanded that universe far beyond Roddenberry's direct production tenure.

Roddenberry's Star Trek became a long-running cultural framework for debating exploration, diversity, technology and political ethics.

His inclusion as a Texas icon rests on documented El Paso birth rather than a fabricated long Texas residency; the profile should preserve that distinction.
