David Robinson was born in Key West, Florida, in 1965 and developed into an elite basketball player at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he won the Naismith and Wooden awards. San Antonio selected him first overall in the 1987 NBA Draft, but his Navy service commitment delayed his professional debut.
