Austin property taxes
Austin property tax calculator
Austin city limits extend across Travis, Williamson and Hays counties. The useful estimate is therefore an address-level taxing-unit stack, not a single Austin-wide percentage.
County, school-district, city and special-district boundaries can change the total even when two properties share an Austin mailing address.
How to get a useful estimate
Build the parcel's actual taxing-unit stack
- 01
Identify whether the parcel is in Travis, Williamson or Hays County.
- 02
Select the school district and municipal rate that actually apply to the address.
- 03
Check for MUD, ESD, community-college and other special-district taxes before relying on the total.

Common questions
Austin property-tax calculator FAQ
Is there one Austin property tax rate?
No. The total depends on the exact county, school district, city jurisdiction and special districts serving the parcel.
Why does the calculator ask for a county first?
Austin spans multiple counties, and the county selection determines which local taxing units can plausibly apply.
Should I add every special district shown for the county?
No. Add only districts that actually include the parcel, as shown by appraisal and tax records.

Methodology
Texas Defined does not publish a single citywide or countywide combined rate. The calculator starts with the selected county, loads finalized taxing-unit rates reported to the Texas Comptroller, and requires the user to choose the school district, municipality and special districts that actually serve the parcel. Exemptions and taxable values remain user-entered because they are parcel-specific.

Source links and local jurisdiction guidance checked August 30, 2026. The calculator labels the finalized rate year returned by the official-rate dataset; verify the actual parcel and current tax record before relying on the result.
This is a planning estimate, not a tax statement, appraisal, exemption determination or legal description. The parcel's appraisal record, exemptions, taxing-unit membership and adopted rates control the actual bill.
